Take TEA to stay Healthy

For disease-fighting antioxidants, tea is hard to beat. Black tea and green tea have the most health-boosting effects, but green tea seems to be especially beneficial.
Some research suggests that these teas may help:

  • Lower cholesterol when you eat a heart-healthy diet

  • Improve blood vessel and heart health

  • Reduce damage to DNA caused by smoking

  • Reduce the risk of some cancers

Health Tips to stay Fit

"You can infuse your life with the power of prevention incrementally and fairly painlessly, and yes, doing something, no matter how small, is infinitely better for you than doing nothing," says David Katz, MD, MPH, director of Yale University's Prevention Research Center and of the Yale Preventive Medicine Center. Katz is also co-author of the book Stealth Health: How to Sneak Age-Defying, Disease-Fighting Habits into Your Life without Really Trying.
From your morning shower to the evening news, from your work commute to your household chores, Katz says, there are at least 2,400 ways to sneak healthy activities into daily living.
"If you let yourself make small changes, they will add up to meaningful changes in the quality of your diet, your physical activity pattern, your capacity to deal with stress, and in your sleep quality -- and those four things comprise an enormously powerful health promotion that can change your life," says Katz.
And yes, he says, a nap on the couch can be a health-giving opportunity -- particularly if you aren't getting enough sleep at night.
Nutritionist and diabetes educator Fran Grossman, RD, CDE, agrees. "You don't have to belong to a gym or live on wheat grass just to be healthy," says Grossman, a nutrition counselor at the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York. "There are dozens of small things you can do every day that make a difference, and you don't always have to do a lot to gain a lot."
Do a Little, Get a Lot
The notion that good health can come in small tidbits is not really new. Research showing that making small changes can add up to a big difference has been quietly accumulating for a while.
For example, a study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine in 2004 found that adding just 30 minutes of walking per day was enough to prevent weight gain and encourage moderate weight loss.
And if 30 minutes is still too big a bite? Another study, published in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, found that three brisk 10-minute walks per day were as effective as a daily 30-minute walk in decreasing risk factors for heart disease.
"Just the act of going from sedentary to moderately active gives you the greatest reduction in your risks," says Helene Glassberg, MD, director of the Preventive Cardiology and Lipid Center at the Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia.
But it's not only in fitness where small changes can make a difference. The same principles apply at the kitchen table (and the office snack bar).
"Reducing fat intake, cutting down on sugar, eating a piece of fruit instead of a candy bar -- over time, these things can make a difference," says Grossman.
As long as the changes are moving you toward your goal -- be it weight loss, a reduction in cholesterol or blood pressure, or better blood sugar control -- you can get there by taking baby steps, she says.
Moreover, Grossman tells WebMD, making small changes can help give us the motivation to make bigger ones.
"A lot of bad eating habits are about not taking charge of your life, and that attitude is often reflected in other areas," says Grossman. On the other hand, she says, when you make small changes at the kitchen table, the rewards may show up in other areas of your life.
"It's the act of taking control that makes the difference in motivating you," says Grossman. "An inner confidence and power begins to develop that can be seen in other areas of life."
Tripping Over Baby Steps
Of course, not everyone is certain that baby steps can walk you all the way to good health. Marc Siegel, MD, a clinical associate professor at the NYU School of Medicine, says that while doing something is certainly better than doing nothing, making such small changes is like using a Band-aid to stop a hemorrhage.
"It's a small, gimmicky idea to target people with very unhealthy lifestyles, and for some it may be useful," says Siegel, author of False Alarm: the Truth about the Epidemic of Fear. But he fears that for most people, it's sending the wrong message.
"In some ways it's a resignation, an admission that things can't be changed -- and that's certainly not the long-term answer," Siegel tells WebMD.
Katz concedes that the Stealth Health approach may not be right for everybody.
"There is a trade-off because if you try to make the pursuit of health easier for people, you run the risk of leading them to believe they don't need to do very much -- and that would be the wrong message," he says.
At the same time, Katz believes that for those who find making health changes a daunting task, Stealth Health techniques can make a difference.
"If you want the really big gains, there has to be some pain," says Katz. "But there is a lot to be said for the idea that you can make some gains with little or no pain, and that's infinitely better than no gains."
Try the Stealth Health Approach
Tempted to give "Stealth Health" a try? Katz recommends picking any three of the following 12 changes and incorporating them into your life for four days. When you feel comfortable with those changes, pick three others. Once you've incorporate all dozen changes, you should start to feel a difference within a couple of weeks, he says.
To Improve Nutrition:
1. Buy whole foods -- whether canned, frozen, or fresh from the farm -- and use them in place of processed foods whenever possible.2. Reject foods and drinks made with corn syrup, a calorie-dense, nutritionally empty sweetener that many believe is worse for the body than sugar, says Katz.3. Start each dinner with a mixed green salad. Not only will it help reduce your appetite for more caloric foods, but it also will automatically add veggies to your meal.
To Improve Physical Fitness:
1. Do a squat every time you pick something up. Instead of bending over in the usual way, which stresses the lower back, bend your knees and squat. This forces you to use your leg muscles and will build strength. 2. Every time you stop at a traffic light (or the bus does), tighten your thighs and butt muscles and release as many times as you can. (Don't worry, no one will see it!) This will firm leg and buttock muscles, improve blood flow -- and keep you mildly amused! 3. Whenever you're standing on a line, lift one foot a half-inch off the ground. The extra stress on your opposite foot, ankle, calf and thigh, plus your buttocks, will help firm and tone muscles. Switch feet every few minutes.
To Improve Stress Control:
1. Give your partner a hug every day before work. Studies show this simple act can help you remain calm when chaos ensues during your day, Katz says.2. Have a good cry. It can boost your immune system, reduce levels of stress hormones, eliminate depression, and help you think more clearly.3. Twice a day, breathe deeply for three to five minutes
To Improve Sleep:
1. Sprinkle just-washed sheets and pillowcases with lavender water. The scent has been shown in studies to promote relaxation, which can lead to better sleep.2. Buy a new pillow. Katz says that studies show that pillows with an indent in the center can enhance sleep quality and reduce neck pain. Also, try a "cool" pillow -- one containing either all-natural fibers or a combination of sodium sulfate and ceramic fibers that help keep your head cool.3. Eat a handful of walnuts before bed. You'll be giving yourself a boost of fiber and essential fatty acids along with the amino acid tryptophan -- a natural sleep-inducer.
Wish You & your Family a very Happy & Prosperous New Year 2008

NEW YORK: An inevitable consequences of advanced and rich economy is a fatter population, says a health economist and co-author of a new book The Fattening America. Though obesity has established itself in western industrial societies, the author Eric Finkelstein gives example of India and China where, he says, waistlines are growing rapidly along with their economies. "Combine that with cheap, prevalent food, and the result is bound to be weight gain. We're seeing this now all over the world," he emphasizes in an interview with Newsweek. But he disagrees from economist perspective that people are making worse choices. "We're fatter, but that does not mean we are worse off. We could do without the low-cost food or new technology, but most Americans would prefer not to. The reason is costs of being thin, in terms of what they would have to forgo, have just gotten so high that people are saying 'I'd rather be fat' than make the increasingly difficult sacrifices necessary to be thin. He argues Americans spend more time on their "butts" at computer, in front of television screen, in the car - than their parents and grandparents did and spend much less time in the kitchen making healthful meals or outdoors burning calories. And everywhere, they are tempted by growing array of cheap, high calorie, fat and sugar-laden treats. The result: two-thirds of American adults are qualified as overweight or obese. But choices that Americans make are deliberate and with knowledge that overweight puts them at risk, he said. The research suggests even with this knowledge, many people will still choose to be overweight

World's oldest orangutan dies at age 55

MIAMI - A 55-year-old Sumatran orangutan, believed to be the world's oldest, has died, a Miami zoo spokesman said.
Nonja, who was born on the Indonesian island of Sumatra and lived in Miami since 1983, was found dead Saturday morning, said Ron Magill, spokesman for the Miami Metro Zoo.
"Everybody's very sad, especially with an animal like an orangutan," Magill said. "You see a lot of yourself in these animals. The great apes are our closest relatives."
A necropsy is to be performed in the next few days. A typical life span for Sumatran orangutans is 40 to 50 years, Magill said.
Nonja had slowed down in recent years because of her age, Mcgill said. "She was really a grand old dame," Magill said.

All about Indian Wedding(According to Andhra Culture)

  • The rites begin with the writing of the lagna patrikas. This ceremony can be performed even one day before the wedding.
  • After consultations with an astrologer, an auspicious day and time is fixed for the marriage ceremony and the concerned families draw up written "contracts".
  • The engagement is called the Nischaithartum or Pradhanum. The bridegroom arrives at the bride's home accompanied by a large group of family members. They bring platters of fruits and gifts for the bride's family.
  • A Vara puja is performed in honour of the groom. During this 'puja', the groom is given gifts by the bride's parents.
  • A ceremony called Paindlipilla or Haldipaspu involves the 'dressing up of the bride' and warding of "evil eyes" and "evil spirits". This takes place on the morning of the wedding day.
  • The marriage ceremonies called vivaham are traditionally held in the bride's ancestral home with two 'pujaris' officiating.
  • A very important ceremony in the Telugu community is called Kankana Shastra. Prayers are offered and blessings sought - the Gods are requested to bless the 'kankana', a double thread placed on coconut that has been smeared with turmeric.
  • The Kanyadaan -Two 'pujaris' recite Vedic chants and a coconut is placed on the bride's palms during the kanyadaan. The bride's father "gives her away" by "giving her hand in marriage" to the groom. The bride's mother pours water on the hands of her husband, acknowledging that they will relinquish parental rights over their daughter!
  • Tying of the knot -The groom ties the sacred 'taali' - two flat pieces of inscribed gold pendants strung on a cord dipped in turmeric, consisting of 108 fine threads closely twisted together.
  • The couple then exchange garlands, after which, they sit across each other divided by a platter of 'thalambratu' - rice smeared with turmeric. They take fistfuls of this rice and shower it over each other till the platter is empty.
  • During the Saptapadi, the 'pujari' lights the 'homa' or sacred fire and the couple take seven steps, taking the marriage vows. The groom's 'angavastram' (shawl) is tied to the bride's sari.
  • The Grahapravesham is the welcoming of the bride into her marital home.
The Reception is not a traditional concept but has become a common feature. It can be simple or elaborate- in keeping with personal taste, affluence and other factors.

A Tour to Seychelles Islands

NORTH ISLAND RESORT - SEYCHELLES ISLANDS

North Island is one of the forty granitic islands of the Seychelles, which are located around the two main islands of Mahé and Praslin. Because North Island has long been uninhabited, is extremely fertile, and has an abundance of fresh water, the new owners came up with a concept which they have called, "Noah's Ark". The plan is to turn back the island's environmental clock two hundred years through rehabilitation and by re-introducing many of the critically endangered Seychelles species slowly over time, so that visitors are able to enjoy viewing some of this endangered wildlife. In this same way, North Island is a sanctuary for its guests - those who seek an unspoiled tropical haven of peace and tranquility. With its four beaches, located at each end of the compass, and the small number of guests accommodated at any time, the island ensures a private and wonderful tropical beach and island experience. North Island is outside of the cyclone belt of the Indian Ocean, making it a safe and enjoyable year-round destination. The "barefoot luxury Robinson Crusoe" development on North Island is unashamedly aimed at providing the very best in privacy, location, accommodation, services and facilities to the most discerning and privileged world travelers. The island is larger than Monte Carlo, yet only has 12 guest villas! Be assured that the staff on North Island will go to every length to pamper you, to enrich you and to rejuvenate your soul. But the essence of North Island remains one of sustainable, ecologically sensitive utilization os a precious, natural treasure.

Dining and Cuisine

For photos of the DINING & CUISINE, click Dining & Cuisine PhotosBesides its exceptional beauty, North Island has long been renowned for its fertility and also for the richness of the fishing grounds wherein it nestles. It is not surprising therefore, that North Island’s lodge should draw upon these exceptional natural resources. The cuisine is based on the very finest natural products lovingly prepared in a sumptuous array of exotic dishes.
The cuisine of North Island is based on the diversity and cultural influences which, in part, make up the Seychellois Creole flavour. Culinary aspects of Seychelles, France and southern Indian spices are combined with the organic resources of North Island and the abundance on offer from the Indian Ocean. Balanced together with simplicity, expect a feast that will awaken all of your senses.
There is a “no menu” concept of dining on North Island and the chef, David Godin, speaks to each guest, explains the North Island cuisine concept, finds out personal food preferences and then develops the menus daily around this information.
During your stay on North Island, you can be sure of a memorable culinary experience, complimented by an impressive cellar with some of the world’s great wines and champagnes. Please let us know well in advance of any special dietary requirements.

Location

Southwest of Sri Lanka, on the equator.

Geography

1,190 coral islands, forming an archipelago of 26 major atolls. Stretches 820 kilometres north to south and 120 kilometres east to west. 202 are inhabited, 87 are exclusive resort islands.

Climate

Generally warm and humid. Sun shines all year through. Average temperature around 29 - 32 degrees Celsius.
What to wear

Dress is generally casual. T-shirts and cotton clothing are most suitable. In Male’, the capital island and other inhabited islands it is recommended that women wear modest clothing without baring too much.

Population

About 270,000 according to 1998 estimates. Origin of the Maldivians are lost in antiquity, but history reveals that the islands have been populated for over 3,000 years ago. Early settlers were travellers on the Silk Route and from the Indus Valley Civilisation. Inherently warm, friendly and hospitable by nature, it is easy to feel comfortable and relaxed with a Maldivian.

Culture

A proud history and rich culture evolved from the first settlers who were from various parts of the world travelling the seas in ancient times. The Maldives has been a melting pot of different cultures as people from different parts of the world came here and settled down. Some of the local music and dance for instance resemble African influences, with handbeating of drums and songs in a language that is not known to any but certainly represents that of East African countries. As one would expect there is a great South Asian influence in some of the music and dancing and especially in the traditional food of the Maldivians. However many of the South Asian customs especially with regard to women - for instance the Sub Continent’s tradition of secluding women from public view - are not tenets of life here. In fact women play a major role in society - not surprising considering the fact men spend the whole day out at sea fishing. Many of the traditions are strongly related to the seas and the fact that life is dependent on the seas around us.

Language

Dhivehi is the language spoken in all parts of the Maldives. English is widely spoken by Maldivians and visitors can easily make themselves understood getting around the capital island. In the resorts, a variety of languages are spoken by the staff including English, German, French, Italian and Japanese.

Economy

The Maldives economy has been growing at an annual average of 10% for the past two decades. Tourism is the main industry, contributing close to 20% of the GDP. Fisheries and trade follow close behind. The Maldivian economy is regarded as exemplary in the region and welcomes foreign investment.

Currency

The Maldivian currency is the Rufiyaa and Laaree. The exchange rate for US Dollar at the time of writing is MRf.11.82 for the dollar. One Rufiyaa is equivalent to 100 laarees. Rufiyaa bank notes come in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 500. Coins are in the denominations of MRf.2.00, MRf.1.00, 50 laarees, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1 laaree. The US Dollar is the most commonly used foreign currency. Payments in the resorts and hotels can be made in most hard currency in cash, travellers’ cheques or credit cards. Commonly used credit cards are American Express, Visa, Master Card, Diners Club, JCB and Euro Card.

Education

The functional literacy rate is 98%. Educational standards are among the highest in the region and schools follow the British system of education.

Health

Health care facilities are improving almost on a daily basis. The Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Male’ is the biggest hospital in the country providing sophisticated medical care. ADK Hospital is the biggest private health care facility and follows high medical standards. Some resorts have in-house doctors. A decompression chamber is within easy reach of most resorts in case of a diving emergency.

Local Time GMT + 5 hours

Business Hours

From Sunday to Thursday 7.30 - 14.30 in the government sector and generally from 9.00 to 5.00 in the private sector, although most offices in the private sector open for a half day on Saturday. Weekend falls on Friday and Saturday. Communication Up-to-date technology and international satellite links allow Maldives to have a sophisticated communications system. IDD facilities are available on all resorts and card phones are available on all inhabited islands. Dhiraagu, the Maldives Telecommunications Company also provides mobile telephones for daily rental. It is also the Internet service provider.

Electricity

The electric system is 230-240 Volts -AC

Male' fish market

The main commercial area of Male’ is located on the northern waterfront of Male’. This area is the main hub of trade and is a hive of activity through out the day. The waterfront and the by-lanes in the area are crowded with shops stocked with a variety of goods. Also in the area are the Male’ Fish Market and the Local Market selling a range of local produce. While some ‘dhonis’ from all corners of the country unload dried fish, fresh fruits and vegetables from the atolls others are seen loading everything from foodstuffs to construction materials. The pace increases in mid-afternoon as fishing ‘dhonis’ start returning with their day’s catch. The catch, mainly tuna are carried across the road into the open-sided market and laid out on the tiled floors. As fast as the fish are brought in they are bought and taken away by men from all walks of life. The market is kept scrupulously clean, washed down each day and disinfected.

The Islamic Centre

The Islamic Centre is the most vivid architectural landmark of Male’. You would see the spectacular golden dome in all its majesty dominating the skyline, as you approach Male’, from any direction. The building symbolizes the importance of Islamic religion, which had ruled all aspects of life in the country for centuries. Completed in 1984, the Centre consists of a mosque big enough for 5000 people, an Islamic library, conference hall, classrooms and offices.

The Local Market

The Local Market, just a block away from the Male’ Fish Market on the northern waterfront, is divided into small stalls. Here the pace is slower and the atmosphere peaceful, compared to the hectic activity in the rest of this neighborhood. Each stall is filled with a variety of local produce mainly from the atolls. Here you will find different kinds of local vegetables, fruits and yams, packets of sweetmeat, nuts and breadfruit chips, bottles of home made sweets and pickles and bunches of bananas hanging on coir ropes from ceiling beams. Another building just next door sells smoked and dried fish.

Huskuru Miskiiy

Built in the 17th century the Huskuru Miskiiy or Friday Mosque served the population of Male’ as their main mosque for almost four centuries, until the Islamic Centre and Grand Friday Mosque took over the function in 1984. Built by Sultan Ibrahim Iskandhar in 1656 the mosque is a masterpiece of coral curving and traditional workmanship - probably the best display of coral curving anywhere in the world. The walls of the mosque are hewn together with blocks of filigree-curved coral blocks. Heavy wooden doors slide open to the inner sanctums with lamp hangings of wood and panels intricately curved with Arabic writings. The area surrounding the mosque is a cemetery with a legion of intricately curved coral headstones. The Munnaaru or minaret in front of the mosque, used to call the faithful to prayer was built in 1675 by the same Sultan.

Mulee-aage

Right in front of the Hukuru Miskiiy is Mulee-aage, a palace built in 1906 by Sultan Mohamed Shamsuddeen III, replacing a house dating back to the mid-17th century. The palace with its wrought iron gates and fretwork friezes on its roof edges and well-kept garden was intended for his son, but the Sultan was deposed. During World War II vegetables were grown in its garden to help relieve food shortages. It became the President’s Official Residence when Maldives became a republic in 1953 and remained so until 1994, when the new Presidential Palace was built. At present Mulee-aage houses the President’s Office.

The National Museum

The National Museum is housed in the only remaining building of the former Sultan’s Palace, which is now the Sultan’s Park. It is an Edwardian colonial-style building of three storey, fairly low key from the outside compared to the amazing collection inside. The articles on display range from thrones and palanquins used by former sultans to the first printing press used in the country, the rifle used by Mohamed Thakurufaanu in his fight against the Portuguese in the 16th century, ceremonial robes, headgear and umbrellas used by Sultans to statues and other figures dating from 11th century, excavated from former temples. A variety of artifacts from times past would give an idea of the unique and rich culture and history of this island nation. A visit to the museum gives an instant insight to the wealth of history most visitors never suspect existed. No longer will you think of the Maldives solely in terms of a tourist destination. The museum is open daily except Friday and public holidays from 9.00 to 11.40 and 3.00 to 5.40. A small fee is charges for admission. Duty free shopping is only available in the departure terminal of the Male’ international airport. The lounge has specialized shops for electrical goods, watches, cameras, fashion, liquor, jewelry, tobacco and more.

Scuba Diving

Every resort in the Maldives caters for scuba divers and international certificates of all types are accepted. The dive schools are well equipped, and regulators, BCDs, computers, masks, snorkels and fins are available for hire. For those learning to dive resorts offer a variety of dive courses are conducted in several languages, with courses conducted in English, German, Italian, French and Japanese in most of the For those learning to dive all resorts conduct open water and advanced courses such as night diving, rescue diving, underwater photography. Courses such as naturalist and shark specialist courses have proved most popular due to the growing interest in the marine environment. At resorts, diving is conducted daily all year around and it is only rarely that diving has to be cancelled. Most resorts would have access to a protected reef on the leeward side of the island that enables them to dive even during times of rough seas and strong winds. Not only do you discover aspects of the planet denied to most people, but you make a lot of good friends as well! The Maldives is famed for its rare underwater beauty. The profusion of psychedelic colours and the abundance and variety of life underwater have fascinated divers and snorkellers since Maldives was discovered as a diving destination. The highest level of visibility that one could expect- sometimes exceeding 50 metres - and warm temperatures throughout the year makes diving in the Maldives a delight you would want to experience over and over again. The Maldives has some of the best dive sites in the world and many visit the Maldives repeatedly for the sole purpose of diving. All resorts in the Maldives have professional dive schools with multi-lingual instructors and conduct courses for beginners as well as the advanced. Many of the resorts have excellent house reefs. Just a short swim from the beach and snorkellers too can experience the same pleasures from the surface.

Surfing

Maldives is fast establishing itself as a destination for surfers. Surfing is relatively new to the Maldives, especially compared to more established activities such as scuba diving. However, the recent O’Neil Deep Blue Contest held in this year has placed Maldives firmly on the world’s surf map. While most of the recognized surf breaks are in Male’ Atoll, there is certainly more to be discovered. For resort based surfing it is advisable to choose one of the resorts on the eastern side of North Male’ Atoll where you could get access to a number of excellent breaks.

Whale and Dolphin Watching

Did you know that Maldives ranks among the top five places on Earth for watching whales and dolphins? Over 20 different species (a quarter of the world’s total) call the Maldives home. These range from the mighty Blue Whale (the largest animal alive) to the diminutive but highly acrobatic Spinner Dolphin. Spinner Dolphins are the commonest species, and they occur here in their tens of thousands. They have a regular daily routine to their lives, feeding offshore at night, coming into the atolls in the early morning, and leaving again for the open ocean in the late afternoon. This dependable schedule means that it is very easy to find Spinner Dolphins at certain times every day. And as a result, many Maldivian resorts offer morning or afternoon dolphin excursions to see Spinners. While nothing with wildlife can be absolutely guaranteed, you will never have a better chance to watch wild dolphins playing in their natural environment than right here in the Maldives. Alternatively, if you would like to see even more dolphins, and whales too, why not try a cruise on one of our many comfortable safari boats? Species that are regularly seen on special whale watching safaris include the Blue Whale, Sperm Whale and Pilot Whale as well as seven different types of dolphin (Spinner, Bottlenose, Risso’s, Spotted, Striped, Fraser’s and Rough-toothed). Maldivian specialities, which are frequently seen here but hardly ever anywhere else, include Dwarf Sperm Whale, Melon-headed Whale and Tropical Bottlenose Whale (long considered the rarest whale in the World, but now known to be a Maldives resident). You may also be lucky enough to spot a pod of magnificent Killer Whales (Orcas), which contrary to popular belief do not live only in cold waters. You may not have realized this before, but with our unbeatable diversity and abundance of whales and dolphins, plus warm clear waters, Maldives really is one the very best places in the world for whale and dolphin watching.

Resorts

Resorts in the Maldives Each resort in the Maldives is housed on a separate island by itself and offers an exotic blend of modern luxury and isolated serenity. With no exception, all resorts have soft sandy beaches, translucent clear lagoons enclosed by house reefs inhabited by a variety of marine flora and fauna and everything else you would expect on a tropical holiday – all within only a few minute’s walking distance. However, each resort island has its individual charm, character and ambience that can best be appreciated through personal experience. The Maldives Islands comprises of roughly 1190 small coral islands, and covers a total area of 104,00.00 sq. Kilometers. These islands are no more than six feet above sea level and lie 73 degrees East Equator. The islands are grouped into nineteen administrative ‘atolls’, and vary in size and character. Some are sandbanks, while others are tropical islands, with lush vegetation, ringed with coral reefs, turquoise lagoons full of marine life, and white sandy beaches.

Larencce breaks Nag's Dec sentiment
After the success of 'Mass' everyone expected something special from the combination of Nag and Larencce. Moreover, 'Don' movie stills and promos increased the heat among the public. 'Don' is the last big Telugu movie being released in 2007 and December is an all-time lucky month for Nagarjuna. Hence everyone is expecting one more blockbuster from him. Now the results were unfolded, and unfortunately the result is in a different way.
Suri (Nagarjuna) establishes himself as 'Don' with the help of some orphans, who follow him since their childhood. He starts helping poor people who face problem from bigwigs in society. Ragava (Larencce), who was also an orphan, stays with him since childhood and both grow up as brothers. Ragava wants his brother to get married and finds a right girl (Anushka). On the other hand, there is a new don called Stephen (Kelly Dorge) enters the show. He was in the habit of occupying each state and runs mafia through his henchmen. He finally arrives in Andhra and plans to capture it. But Suri faces him and challenges him no that one can beat a Telugu man, off course the Don. The rest of the story deals with the war between both the dons and who wins the race and how had to be seen on the silver screen.
Nagarjuna, the evergreen Manmadhudu of Tollywood, appeared aged in many scenes of the movie for the first time. His hairstyle did not suits him well and he was not very impressive in his attire. Surprisingly, the audiences who generally go to his movies to watch his glamour feel disappointed as for the first time he got less marks for his looks. Even with regard to performance his character was not properly established. His Don'ism' restricted to only praising but his character was not established in a proper way, which is a director's mistake. Anushka, who was a yoga teacher off the screen need to take care about her physique on the screen and should cut the fat drastically. There is nothing much to perform in her role and she tries her best to expose glamour and did not feel shy in kiss scenes. A major portion of the film was devoted to the praise of 'Don' by Ragava Larencce by playing a full length character exclusively for the purpose. Not only as brother he also took responsibility of comedy track also and avoided comedians but things worked against him. Nikitha played a small role amidst good twist. Introduction of a new villain to the Telugu film industry is good and there is a little freshness in the villainy. Chalapati Rao and Jeeva acted as followers of Nagarjuna and the important cast ends with this list.
S Gopal Reddy's cinematography is good like all his previous movies. DI [Digital Intermediate] elevated his cinematography and gave stylish and richer look. Producer ML Kumar Chowdary, though spent a lot on the film, failed to concentrate on the script. Though he felt that the combination would repeat the history and become a big hit, the film had become an entire one man show by Larencce. He personally tried his hand in several departments like, story, screenplay, choreography, music and direction besides playing a role as well. As a whole, he failed to do justice to any of the departments. As Lawrence was the only chef and he dished out a whole tasteless dish. The story is very delicate and it needs very interesting narration which is lacked miserably. The music of the movie is also not up to the mark. Larencce, who choreographed several hit tunes, failed to give a hit music or a good dance in the film. He had also failed in elevating the hero's character properly. The love track between the hero and heroine and also himself and another heroine was very weak and his comedy timing failed to tickle the funny bones of the audiences.
The movie's soul is missing. The one-man show of Larencce turned a failure. It was Larencce who was completely responsible for the flop show. The craze among the audiences on Nagarjuna would be the only saviour of the movie. The box office situation of the movie suffers with all the above drawbacks and only Nagarjuna and festival vacations should help the movie.

Saif Admits To Seeing Kareena

By movietalkies Friday Oct 19 11:52 AM
Finally, it is official. Saif Ali Khan went public and finally admitted that he was seeing actress Kareena Kapoor. Saif's admission that he was dating Kareena has put to rest all conjectures regarding the two.
The two were seen together yesterday at Manish Malhotra's fashion show in Mumbai last night. Before this, they have been spotted dining together and were even spotted in New Delhi, partying with friends. There were certain sources which had said that the Saif-Kareena affair was just a publicity stunt for the Shahid-Kareena starrer Jab We Met. But Saif's admission has ended all such speculation. Earlier, this week, Shahid Kapur, Kareena's ex-boyfriend, is believed to have come as a guest on a popular dance show and said that he was single and ready to mingle. The Kareena-Saif relationship apparently started when the two of them were shooting together for Yash Raj's Tashan. Shahid was away in Canada shooting when the affair started. After he returned, the duo was professional enough to come together and complete the patchwork shoot that was left for Jab We Met. They are believed to have not even exchanged a word. Subsequently they also appeared in a TV show together without interacting with each other. It seems that Shahid too is learning to move on. He is believed to have struck a good rapport with his co-star Vidya Balan.

Sanjeeda-Aamir win keenly fought 'Nach Baliye' final

Mumbai, Dec 23 (IANS) After high voltage and exhaustive performances for 13 weeks, small screen's not-so-well-known actors, Sanjeeda Sheikh and Aamir Ali, have been voted the best dancing couple of 'Nach Baliye 3', defeating the popular drama queen Rakhi Sawant and her partner Abhishek Awasthi.
Thanks to the show, the Sanjeeda-Aamir duo has now become household names.
'Nach Baliye' selects celebrities from the small screen and throws them together in the challenging competition with their real life partners. This year 11 couples participated.
The search for the best dancing couple after Saturday midnight with Sanjeeda-Aamir dancing away with the first prize of Rs.2 million and a car while their choreographers Arun and Chetan won Rs.1 million.
Bollywood heartthrob Salman Khan, who entertained the viewers with his one-liners and did many jigs to his hit numbers, announced the winners and gave away the prizes.
Before naming the winners, Salman made a request: 'Please don't cry after the announcement because we have not come to mourn here.'
However, Rakhi couldn't keep Salman's request. When the results were announced, the drama queen - touted as the sure shot winner - was visibly shocked and immediately left the stage with her partner. She didn't even stay to take the runners up trophy.
The camera captured her crying and sobbing. Later, talking to a television channel, she alleged that votes had been tampered with and she was included in the show merely as a publicity tool.
Dressed in blue and silver, Sanjeeda and Aamir made a perfect couple. Unlike Rakhi, they maintained their poise and controlled their anxiety before the announcement and excitement after winning the trophy.
The judges, including choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant, director David Dhawan and actress Isha Koppikar, were not complaining at all. They were satisfied with the two finalists' dance technique, choreography and presentation and the final result.
Other 'funny' awards distributed in the grand final round were Haan Ji Haan which went to Kashmira Shah-Krishna; Bol Baliye was given to the most talkative contestant Pooja Bedi; the Mind Blowing couple award went to the hosts Hussain-Tina; Most Damdar Jodi went to Rakhi-Abhishek; Karan-Amita got the Most Mazedar couple award; Shweta-Alex won the most Damdar Jodi trophy; the most Manpasand Jodi award was given to Kavita-Karan.
Sachin and Supriya, the winner of the first 'Nach Baliye', performed for the grand finale and Laughter Champion Ehsaan Qureshi tickled the funny bones of the viewers with his jokes.

Rupee turns stronger against dollar

Rupee turned stronger against the US currency and recovered by about 17 paise following a sharp rally in Asian equity markets.
In active trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (forex) market, the local currency resumed firm at 39.81/82 a dollar from yesterday's close of 39.88/89 a dollar and later surge to a high of 39.67 per dollar before being quoted at 39.71/72 a dollar in late morning deals.
Rupee was driven higher by a 597-point jump in the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex this morning to touch 18,211.17. Asian markets too were strong during morning trade.
The rupee also drew support from the market regulator Sebi's decision to allow the sub-accounts of FIIs, which is expected to increase capital inflows into equity.
The market regulator last evening decided to allow proprietary sub-accounts of FIIs to apply for a full licence if they are used for their own trading and to put registration of FIIs on the fast track.
Forex dealers said the rupee sentiment was also aided by the absence of any dollar demand from oil companies.

All About Deepika Padukone Engagement

Delhi, Dec 14 (IANS) First, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and now his teammate Yuvraj Singh. Budding actress Deepika Padukone is quite fed up and says reports about her engagement with Yuvraj Singh are not true at all.
'Please...this is the strangest thing I have heard, so far,' said a visibly disturbed Deepika.
The actress was Thursday evening declared the new brand ambassador of Swiss watch brand Tissot.
Asked how endorsements work for actors, she said: 'It works both ways. I mean celebrities connect the brand to the audience and the label connects them to the viewers, making them more popular.'
Deepika, who is the daughter of former world badminton champion Prakash Padukone, said sports works to de-stress her: 'I am very closely associated with sports. I have played games like badminton, basketball, tennis, throwball and baseball.'
'My favourite sport is swimming however, any type of sport de-stresses me. It takes my mind off work and makes me feel relaxed,' Padukone told IANS.
The newcomer struck fame with her debut film 'Om Shanti Om' opposite Shah Rukh Khan.
However, she denies being bogged down by any kind of pressure of meeting expectations while picking up projects or in her upcoming movies.
'No there is no such pressure on me! Dad taught me to enjoy my work and till the time I do so I will face the camera merrily.
'I always wanted to do an action flick and I am luckily doing 'Made In China'. Nikhil Advani is directing the film and I will share screen space with Akshay Kumar.'

Deepika also has Siddharth Anand's next in her kitty where she is paired opposite Ranbir Kapoor.

Narendra Modi takes power for third term in Gujarat, India

AHMEDABAD, India (Reuters) - Narendra Modi formally took power as chief minister of Gujarat on Tuesday, after a strong election victory that came as a shot in the arm for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The vote this month in Gujarat, one of India's most developed states, was seen as a barometer of the fortunes of India's two main parties in the run-up to a series of state elections next year and parliamentary polls due in early 2009.
Modi, who surprised pollsters and analysts by leading the BJP to a strong majority in Gujarat, was sworn-in for a third term at a stadium in Ahmedabad.
Thousands of supporters gathered at the venue, showering flowers at their leader. Many fasted all day as penance until the ceremony was completed.
"He is our leader, our hope and our true Hindu son," said 62-year-old Ramanlal Panchal, as he waited for Modi to arrive.
Modi and the BJP were forecast to have only a narrow edge ahead of the Dec. 11 and Dec. 16 two-stage poll with the Congress party, which is in power centrally, appearing to give him a tough fight.
During campaigning, Modi initially chose to seek votes on a platform of growth and development. But he returned to his pet hardline Hindu themes after apparently being provoked by Congress.
Modi is a hate figure for Muslims and millions of secular Hindus across the country. He stands accused of turning a blind eye, and even encouraging, the killing of 1,200 to 2,500 people, most of them Muslims, in communal riots in the state in 2002.
In an interview published in the Times of India on Tuesday, Modi suggested the appointment of an independent panel to investigate charges that his election campaign was communal.
"If they find that I have made a single communal speech, then I declare I will concede defeat," he said.
